Details Of Tinos Island Organized Tour

A splendid day in Tinos gives you the chance to explore the beautiful interior of this traditional and artistic island. The beautiful and picturesque drive will be along winding mountain roads and will include several excellent stops. Tinos was inhabited by the Venetians for about 500 years and therefore there are still plenty of beautiful pigeon houses originating from these times and also many Catholic villages.

What the island is famous for is that Tinos houses the most important church in Greece. The impressive “Evangellistria” was built for the miraculous icon “Megalochari”. It is the aim of pilgrimage for Greek people from all over the world.

Tinos island has many beautifully maintained traditional villages and many with marble sculpturing decorated houses, crafted by local Tinian marble artists. The island is famous for its white and grey marble which is taken from the marble quarries in the north of the island and is also fitted in Buckingham Palace in London and the Paris Louvre.

During our comfortable fully air-conditioned bus tour, we’ll visit the famous church, see valleys of the pigeon houses, traditional villages where you can enjoy lunch in a tavern with great views and local specialties, and the nun’s monastery of Kechrovouni with its picturesque views and wonderful architecture.

Our next stop is in Pyrgos which is the main town of marble where even the bus stop is of solid marble, and we’ll visit a marble artist in his workshop. Next, we’ll visit the village of Volax, famous for its basket-weaving tradition and the big granite rocks dominating the landscape.

After our visit, we’ll drive back to Tinos town. Here you have free time for shopping, and relaxing at the harbor front before we make our way back to Mykonos by ferry.

Please respect the dress code for the visit to the church and the monastery on Tinos:

Ladies: shoulders and knees have to be covered (trousers are allowed)

Persons with Disabilities

  • Due to uneven surfaces, certain sites are not recommended for persons with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair. Most of Mykonos Town (Chora) commercial center is either flat or has cobblestone, flagstone-paved streets and lanes with slight inclines, though there are some lanes that have steps. Note though, the center is surrounded by hills, some of which are steep, but you could easily avoid those and still have plenty to see on flatter terrain. Alternatively, you could visit a beach like Platis Gialos or Ornos with a good selection of hotels & restaurants alongside or close to the beaches which are flat!
  • In all cases, we recommend comfortable flat-soled walking shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • For guests who are full-time wheelchair users, a ramp vehicle will be needed. Guests may remain in their wheelchairs or scooters for the duration of the excursion. Wheelchair or scooter dimensions are required in order to confirm the correct vehicle!
  • Wheelchair or small scooter folding type only. (Please note that disabled passengers must be able to board the vehicle independently or with the assistance of those in their party.)
